The cast of Seinfeld confronts their Bizarro counterparts. From left to right: Kevin, Gene, Feldman, Elaine, Kramer, George, and Jerry.
Seinfeld is a sitcom that aired from 1989 to 1998. It was developed by Jerry Seinfeld, who is a big Superman fan. As such, many references to Superman are made throughout the series. However, two episodes in particular focus on Superman themes: "The Race" and "The Bizarro Jerry".
The Race
In "The Race", Jerry Seinfeld is dating a woman named Lois, and uses her name as an opportunity to do Superman impersonations throughout the episode. The climactic sequence of the episode plays out in slow motion and is accompanied by "Superman Theme" by John Williams.
The Bizarro Jerry
"The Bizarro Jerry" features Bizarro versions of the Seinfeld cast. This concept is explicitly introduced when Jerry Seinfeld says Kevin (who debuted in the episode "The Soul Mate") is "Bizarro Jerry" and explains Bizarro. The Bizarro characters display the opposite qualities to those of the cast of Seinfeld. In the end, Kevin speaks with Bizarro grammar.
- Kevin is the Bizarro version of Jerry Seinfeld. Where Jerry is considered forgetful and inconsiderate, Kevin is reliable and kind. His apartment is the exact reverse of Jerry's, and he has a figure of Bizarro in place of Jerry's statue of Superman.
- Gene is the Bizarro version of George Costanza. Being the opposite of George, who is selfish and irresponsible, Gene is selfless and responsible.
- Feldman is the Bizarro version of Cosmo Kramer. Where Kramer comes up with harebrained schemes, Feldman produces useful ideas.
- Vargas is the Bizarro version of Newman. He appears only briefly, in the episode's epilogue. He is an employee of FedEx (whereas Newman is an employee of the United States Postal Service) and is friends with Kevin.
Cast
Several guest stars on Seinfeld went on to roles in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which aired concurrently with Seinfeld's later seasons. Most notably, Teri Hatcher, who played Sidra (Jerry Seinfeld's girlfriend who Elaine Benes suspects of having breast implants) in the Seinfeld episode "The Implant", took the lead role of Lois Lane. Following the cancellation of Lois & Clark, Hatcher made a cameo in the Seinfeld finale, again as Sidra. Despite the series's history of Superman references, the episode makes no allusion to Hatcher's role as Lois Lane.
Other shared cast between the two shows include Steve Hytner (reoccurring character Kenny Bania on Seinfeld, paranoid lawyer Denzler in "Bob and Carol and Lois and Clark"), Brian George (reoccurring character Babu Bhatt on Seinfeld, scientist Misha in "The Family Hour"), and Lane Davies (George Costanza's prospective employer in the Seinfeld episode "The Pie", reoccurring character Tempus on Lois & Clark).
Helen Slater had an uncredited role in the episode "The Good Samaritan".
The Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman
In addition to the numerous references to the Superman Mythos in Seinfeld, Jerry is Superman's pal in The Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman.
